I have suffered from depression on and off for more than 20 years, over the past 18-24 months it felt like it was there constantly and I didn't know what to do. After speaking to my GP, I was referred for CBT, having tried counselling in the past.
I found the first few CBT sessions really stressful, however my therapist (Katie) listened to me and helped me understand how my thought process works and how I was looping back to more negative thoughts than positive ones (I call this how my brain works). This method has helped me on several occasions when I've started to feel low and a picture of how my brain works has popped into my mind and made me rethink things through. I also found that writing things down that I'm worrying about helps, and then working through solutions.
I could write so much more about the benefits of CBT, I would recommend this therapy to anyone who is feeling low and who needs to understand why.
Thank you to all the people involved in CBT and a special Thank You to Katie. You helped me understand how my depression was triggered and helped turn my thoughts around before things went too far.
