"Heart Attack.."

About: Lincoln County Hospital

27/4/14. I was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack. the paramedics were brilliant. Into A & E and things happened quickly. Minutes later the cardiac nurses arrived and I was whisked away into the laboratory. Watching the cardiac team swing into action was truly mesmerising, 'well oiled clockwork' falls well short of the accolade deserved. They were truly fabulous. I wasn't too alert to the procedures around me, more concerned with the pain in my chest, although the team were explaining everything to me, I was rather deaf to their information... Scant minutes later the pain in my chest started to subside, and very shortly after that I was wheeled to the side of the laboratory, the surgeon came over to explain about the procedure I had just had. Procedure, I thought it was just exploratory, not that all had been completed? My undying gratitude the consultant and team for the 2 stents, easier breathing, and, my life. You were all totally professional, and so skilled.'Impressed' is an inadequate comment. I then found myself on Johnson ward, it was clean and well run, the downside, the new 'hypersensitive' warning system that started chiming every 7 seconds. The nursing staff were attentive, caring and punctual to my needs and meds. Of particular note and deserving special mention was a staff nurse. Sad that after making me most comfortable, and feel extremely important, it was her day off the next day... It was in all honesty a lousy night, sleep was not to be had due to the amount of noise. Not the staff I hasten to add, but some patient who, for whatever reason thought he was going to make life extremely hard for the staff. He was dealt with as well as anyone could, short of knocking him out. As with a great number of boring old men like me, the next morning I complained about the noise. With no further ado the staff moved me into the other half of Johnson ward, where peace and quiet could be had, and another excellent nurse. I have to say that every staff member I encountered on this ward was very friendly, helpful and caring, but the 2 nurses I have mentioned truly were deserving of 'special mention'. Not for a moment did they show any signs of frustration at a 'whinging old man'. (Letter to Ward Sister and Matron on its way.) Arriving in Lincoln 15 months ago I heard the negative comments on the local TV news about Lincolnshire hospitals. I have read some of them on here, some people really must start to realise that you are not the only one ill or needing treatment, if you want one to one treatment, 'stay at home'.. Walk a week in the staff's shoes, then if you can do better......Well done all...
