"Head injury resulting from a cycling accident"

About: North Devon District Hospital

I was taken to A&E by ambulance following a cycling accident in which I sustained head injuries. The care I received was outstanding - from the arrival of the ambulance crew through to being discharged. The ambulance arrived quickly following our call, and I received great care from the crew through to arriving at the hostpital. Once at the hostpital, I was attended to quickly and then immediately sent for a CT scan. Following this, I was again seen quickly by the consultant who gave me thorough information on my injuries, and good advice about my recovery. Finally, the nurse cleaned and dressed my facial wounds, making such a good job that they have healed much more quickly than I expected, and will leave less scarring than I feared. Throughout the experience, I really appreaciated how friendly and helpful all the staff where.

Dear Mr Rooke

Many thanks for sharing your experience with us. It must have been a very anxious time for you, following the accident. I was pleased to learn that your initial attendance by SWAFT ( South West Ambulance Foundation Trust) was positive, and I am sure they will be commenting on your feedback in the near future, as they are a seperate Trust to the hospital.

I am also pleased to note that your attendance at A&E was very positive, and that not only were you seen promptly with tests being arranged quickly, you were kept fully informed at all times throughout your care and treatment, at what was obviously a very worrying time for you.

I have shared your comments with the Emergency Department Service manager where I know they will be well recieved and shared with the staff involved in your care.

Jayne
