"Waiting Times, No Drugs and Discharge Paperwork"

Sat around for 9 hours waiting for my hernia repair surgery. After surgery I was admitted to a hospital ward where they had no pain killers. I was in so much pain that I need to carried to the toilet. Unfortunately my bladder went in to retension and I needed to be discharged with a catheter. Two days after being discharged (3 days after surgery) my catheter blocked and as it was on Sunday (out of hours for most Health Care Proffessionals) I drove myself on drugs (silly of me - but when you have not had a pee for 8 hours, you do anything!!) to the Urgent Care Unit in Hemel Hempstead where it was unblocked. Unfortunately 24 hours later on Monday it blocked again and I rang the Local District Nurse who stated that I was not on her list and she could not help me, dispite the Hospital Staff Nurse faxing over the details to the District Nurse HQ in Apsely, as part of the Hospital discharge proceedure. I was told by the Local District Nurse to get my GP to send an Urgent Referral Letter. I rang my GP and they said that they had no details of my Hospital Discharge. I needed to walk for 20 minutes to my GP (4 days after surgery) with a copy of my Certicate of Discharge so they could send an Urgent Referral Letter to the District Nurse. My catheter was unblocked 6 hours later. I can undertand the waiting times involved due to the numbers the NHS need to deal with, but what I can not understand is why they fail on simple things like not having pain killing drugs and why they still use a fax where paperwork does get lost/misfiled. An email system has got to be better? The impact on myself has been unnecessary pain, discomfort and stress.
