I was admitted for a total hysterectomy on March 19 2014, following years of suffering fibroids and related issues, and after numerous other gynae ops. Everyone pulled a face that I had chosen this hospital over Rugby or Coventry, due to it being on special measures. However, I had specified my chosen surgeo and was quite happy to be treated by GEH. My whole experience from start to finish was excellent and I could not fault the hospital or treatment whatsoever. The staff in the Tenby Day Care unit, where I was admitted, were fabulous, and this department was run with a quiet efficiency that was very relaxing and confidence giving. My surgeon and her team were amazing - I have been left with a very neat and barely perceptible scar. Without any exaggeration, the only post op pain or discomfort I experienced was from trapped wind! and I was discharged the following day. My post op care was provided by the staff on Victoria ward - my day nurse was delightful and during the night, two other nurses looked after the ward. The nursing staff were fantastic and despite being run ragged, ensured that all the patients on the ward were extremely well looked after. The food was cracking and the ladies with the tea trolley were frequent visitors too! In respect of cleanliness, our ward was spotless and had a very spacious and airy feel to it, making it conducive to speedy recovery. I am now 6 weeks into my recovery and have behaved myself throughout. I am 45 and in good general health. I cannot thank this hospital enough for making this major operation such a success and would recommend it to anyone.
