"All good - then bad"

About: Worthing Hospital

I was referred to the ENT Outpatients by my GP and attended on four occasions when I received good attention from all staff concerned - although the doctors didn't really seem to agree on what the problem was with my ear! On the fourth visit the doctor sent me for a hearing test which showed that I had a dead ear and other symptoms which caused him to request an urgent MRI scan, which I had ten days later. I was also booked in to attend the out patients clinic two weeks later. However, two days before this appointment a message was left on my answer phone telling me that the appointment was cancelled and I would be notified of a new date. This person did not say who they were or where they were calling from - I could only work out what they were cancelling because that was the only appointment I had. This was two weeks ago and I have heard nothing from the hospital since. I have tried calling the appointments department who tell me that they can't do anything and I need to speak to the consultants secretary. I have left messages on three different extension numbers but no-one calls back. As you might imagine, I am most anxious to know the results of the MRI (a friend suggested that they would call me if there was something bad but I have serious doubts about that in view of the two weeks silence - perhaps everyone in the department is off sick?) and, as I am due to go on holiday in less than two weeks, need to know if I have to cancel my plans - I certainly don't feel well enough to travel but need a doctors say so to make the final decision. I am worried that somehow I have got 'lost in the system' and am not receiving the ongoing treatment my condition requires. It is a shame because I was forming a good opinion of the hospital treatment.
