My 11 year old son was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease but not offered any particular treatment for a while. Then he was suddenly prescribed 60 milligrams of prednisolone (steroids) and kept on this high dose for a whole month. This was just after I dared to seek a second opinion at another hospital.
I have since been told that such a dose is high even for an adult. The reason given was a very slight weight loss.
Later, as he suffered coming off this high dose, we were told on the phone to put him on immuno-suppressants. This is the treatment my young son suffered at the hands of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
"Was I punished for seeking a second opinion?"
