"Disappointing service and attitude of staff."

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital

My father who at 84 is unsteady on his feet at the best of times was admitted on C3 and then moved to C6 (gastro). Earlier in the day before he was admitted we visited A & E due to a fall, x rayed and nothing broken, sent home with pain killers. Couldn`t even get off the bed, had to ask for a wheel chair and help to get him into it. By the time we got him to my house he was throwing up, couldn`t walk from the car to the front door with out me holding his hands and my son getting a chair for him to rest on.Couldn`t send him home as he lives alone and bathroom/toilet are upstairs. After ringing hospital we were advised to take him back, struggled to get him out again and if it wasn`t for the paramedic who was kind enough to help us I don`t know what we would have done. Very efficiently seen second time by a lovely caring nurse and doctor, (much better than the first time). On C6 he was in bed 5 days and then given a frame to use, asked for help when he went to the toilet because his side was hurting from fall, person said it wasn`t their job! One evening after visiting he wanted to go to the toilet so I went to the nurses station were they were all sat talking and told them, the reply was `he`s got a bottle`. Got a phone call (30 mins) later from Dad asking for clean pyjamas because he`d had an accident and wet his pyjamas, they still hadn`t answered his bell by this time! Sunday morning still struggling to move as he does first thing in the morning asked nurse/carer for help to sit up, was told `I`m not doing that and giving myself a bad back, I`m going on holiday with my son and boyfriend am not going with a bad back! Can you please tell me what they are there for if not to help? During his stay in hospital no staff has been forth coming with any information as to his condition, changes in medication, etc. and when we do try to find out information we are greeted with blank expressions and shrugged shoulders.

Hello, I'm very sorry to hear about this. We'd like to look into your father's experience in more detail - please could I ask you to contact me directly with your name and a telephone number, then our matron will be able to call you in person? My email address is sarah.mainprize@nhs.net Kind regards Sarah
