"Terrible treatment during our 20 week scan"

About: Birmingham Women's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

After waiting for my 20 weeks scan we were very anxious and excited to finally see our baby again and check all was ok.

From the moment we went into the scan room the atmosphere was horrible, the lady barely spoke to us, made us feel as though we should be worried about something.

Most things were fine but baby would not turn around, after being told to go and walk around and come back, we did. The baby had not moved, in order for the lady to look at the face.

I asked politely if there was any chance of seeing the babies sex, which I know is not the reason for the scans but on the odd chance we thought we would ask. She snapped back at us that she would not even comprehend looking at the sex whilst IT was in that position. She then told us to rebook for a weeks time and come back then.

She did not explain anything to us about the baby or what she had or had not seen, she was very unpleasant and very unprofessional. I believe this was because me and my partner are younger parents (in our early 20s) however I look very young. I believe she was judging us based on our age.

I went into see the nurse and doctors in tears.

She ruined an experience that should have been one of the happiest times.
