"A truly magnificent team"

I was 40 years old when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, just 6 months after having my ovaries removed to reduce my risk of getting ovarian cancer (my mum had sadly passed away from this disease at the age of 52).

What I had hoped to be just a cyst turned out to be far worse and devastating. As a single parent with 2 young boys my world literally fell apart with a few unwanted words ... I'm sorry it's cancer and you will need a mastectomy.

Surgery followed and then chemotherapy (and then further surgery to have my other breast removed following confirmation that I have the dodgy BRAC1 gene) all of which becomes a blur in time but nearly 5 years on, what still remains so clear is the compassion, care and true professionalism that was afforded to me by all the Staff at the Boston Breast Unit, Pilgrim Hospital.

They truly are a magnificent team, each and every single person.
