My 89 year old mother has been bought into A&E 9 times over the last 10 months. Each time she has been required to stay on various wards for between 9 and 23 days. The nursing care on all wards has been very good but the communication between doctors , my mother and other family members has been diabolical. No doctor has bothered to listen to us when we are telling them each time what has bought her in, what her symptoms are and how they are bought on. She is always hypothermic upon arrival with low blood pressure and barely conscious. After a few days she is moved to another ward, then sometimes another before being 'prepared for discharge'. This tends to involve letting her sit by her bed, being escorted to the toilet a couple of times and asked if she is in any pain. When the doctors have decided she is fit enough for discharge, without any proper diagnosis, we are given a phone call to say she is on her way home despite the fact the she is visited every day by members of her family who the doctors fail to communicate with. We are not being given any follow on care or suggestions of how to manage her symptoms The last time she was left sitting waiting for patient transport for 5 hours.
