"Neurosurgery @ Frenchay"

About: Frenchay Hospital

It was discovered that i had to have a major operation on my neck after i kept getting numbness down one side of my body. I had to have reconstructive surgery. I had to have bone removed from my pelvis, to form new bones for my neck. as my neck hadn't formed properly through birth. My Surgeon was really supportive & re-assuring. I felt safe & confident that i would be fine. After 12 hours in surgery, i was taken to the ict unit. However, due to the drugs etc, i started hullucinating & unfortunately, started to get very abusive & threatening to members of staff. After what seems like days, i came to my senses, & started to recover. However, no-one explained to me why this happened. Since i have been home, i now get panic attacks & scared to sleep. I just wish some-one had sat me down & said that this is sometime normal & the staff take it in their stride. The staff were & are outstanding though. Wouldn't know how to thank them enough for giving me my life back.

Response from Frenchay Hospital

Dear Heather – thank you for your kind comments about the Neurosurgery service at Frenchay Hospital. I am pleased that you found the staff to be outstanding and I am sorry that you suffered complications, and that because this is something that staff take in their stride, no one thought to explain your complications to you. If you are still feeling unwell please advise your GP who will be able to refer you back to the service should this be necessary. I have passed on your comments to the service managers so the staff can be made aware of your feedback. Thank you again for taking the time and trouble to post your views, I hope that you are soon fully recovered. Kind Regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
