My operation was in Feb 13, I can only give my experience at that time and would not be able to comment on how the ward is now. When I arrived on the ward I had no problems or issues everything was fine and was taken down to sugary. After coming round from my operation I was not feeling too well. When I went back to the ward despite a call to inform them that I was coming back up there was no staff around, leading to me been left on a trolley for some time. When I did get back in to my room I was thirsty and hungry been nil by mouth for 12 hrs before my op. I was given water and meds as I was in a lot of pain. After that I was left alone to sleep with interruptions for bp monitoring which was fine. When I came round a little more I was hungry. However the staff had not taken the nil by mouth sign off my door so I missed dinner. They did manage to bring me some food after a long wait. However my head started hurting so I called for a nurse after waiting 20 min someone finally came and then said that there was no Dr available so I would have to wait. So I did I waited a further 20 min, called for a nurse again waited another 20 min. Someone finally came and gave me some meds. After about 2 hrs back on the ward I needed to use the bathroom, however was stopped from doing so as my legs appeared to be strapped to the bed pressing for a nurse I waited another 40 min. Someone finally came and removed air bags from my legs that had stuck themselves together and then to the bed. After a very unsteady trip I managed to get back in to bed and called the nurse again for some more meds and after waiting some time was told no Dr was available. I asked if the TV in my room could be put on however there was no remote control. After several more calls for the nurses and more waiting I was given some more pain relief. I asked when I would be going home and was told that night after the Dr had seen me. Finally my partner came to visit me. After still no visit from the Dr she went to ask about my discharge and was told it was up to me. Still not feeling too well I pressed for the nurse again waiting 40 min. My partner looked but could not find anyone. Someone did come I asked if I could go home and was told yes I should have already left. I asked to talk to the Dr but was told there was none on the ward. One did come finally to prescribe some more meds but would not even enter the room. At about 8 pm my partner decided to take me home. I asked about medication I was told that I could not have any, if I felt ill call the ward or 999 or go to my GP. Regarding a sick note I was told no one could write one. So I left the ward feeling very unwell, in a lot of pain and confused. I am a Social Worker and a MH Nurse and like to think I am with it, however I felt my treatment left a little to be desired and can only imagine what it would have been like if I was an elderly, very young, frail or confused person. As I stated at the beginning my operation was some time ago.
