"After 3weeks my father was transferred ..."

About: Lincoln County Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

After 3weeks my father was transferred to John Coupland Hospital at Gainsborough

What could be improved

more empathy, dignity and respect shown by nursing staff also more communication between nursing staff

Anything else?

My elderly father was referred by his G.P for admission. After waiting in A&E for over 3hrs he was eventually taken to a holding ward until a bed was ready on a ward.He was taken to Panton Ward eventually. This was on a Thursday afternoon,he was not seen by a Doctor until Monday although he was extremely poorly. My Father has Parkinsons disease, also a hip replacement so his mobility is very limited and his speech is also affected,he is also incontinent and he relys totally on the help of Carers/Nurses etc.He is unable to cut up food, and was so weak he couldnt even pick up a cup.In his 3week stay he wasnt given help with feeding or drinking and had to rely on visitors. There was no communication between nursing staff even after continuous complaints from our family members. He was not treat with dignity or respect but too ill and proud to complain or ask for help. After 3weeks he was transferred to another hospital where he is improving with lots of help and physiotherapy.

On his transfer he was transported in the rear seat of a car, even though he struggled to get in & out and on arrival at the other hospital as he was being taken out of the car he actually fell onto his knees and hurt himself. He is unable to walk without a walking frame and after being so poorly and not eating/drinking much for 3weeks was very weak and should have been transferred by a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
