"Stroke Unit Elderly Neglect"

About: West Middlesex University Hospital

Today my mum was transferred from Charring Cross Hospital, about 2 weeks about my mum suffered a stroke and seizure. After being transfered which was about 6pm, the nurse was waiting for change over from Charring Cross hospital, in the meantime my mum was getting very agitated, she kept repeating herself over and over again, and was trying to get out of the bed. We asked the nurse to help several times, we were informed, there was nothing she could do until she spoke to Charring Cross. 2 hours later nothing changed, no one wanted to help us, the nurse was not going to attend to my mum until the stroke unit came in, which we were told would be tomorrow after 9am. My mum in the meantime was agitated trying to get out of bed, we told the nurse we will stay the night if nothing was done, she said that was fine. My 2 sisters spent the night, we were so scared just in case my mum fell of the bed, who would take the blame. I am here from California, elderly get treated alot better, the hospitals take care of you.

We were very concerned to hear about the distress caused following the transfer of your mother to our hospital. We have been in direct contact with you since you posted your comments and one of our senior doctors has spoken to you at length. Our PALS team is also available if you would like to contact them via pals.service@wmuh.nhs.uk / 020 8321 6261.
