"Disgusting staffing on Labour and postnatal ward"

Came in to be induced in June 2012 as my son was late. I was given many different things to induce labour over a few days. This should of been a indication that my son may of been having issues puttting me into labour. They finally took me up to labour ward to break my water put me on a drip to push on labour. 10 hours in and only a few cm dilated and me and baby going into distress we were taken for a emergany c section. It was later discovered that I couldnt give birth naturally. My post natal care was shameful the ward was understaffed and had to bring in midwives from portsmouth to cover. After having c section i struggled to get out of bed to pick up baby to breastfeed and when i called for help midwife said 'oh why dont you just give up breast feeding and bottle feed him instead as he will sleep longer'. This is not the advise I expect to hear from midwives who are supposed to enourage breast feeding especially in a country where breast feeding children has become less common in modern mums. I requested to speak to head matron on ward or head midwife, not sure who I got as she never introduced herself properly. She then proceeded to push the blame and said maybe it was 'baby blues'. I was in hospital for a week and a half after having my son and discharged myself against hospital advise because I couldnt deal with the lack of support and rudeness of staff. The reason I was there for a week and a half was due to a infection I had aquired after surgery, when It became obvious that I needed a bit more attention I was sent up to labour ward again where it was discovered that I had a blown vein in my hand where the midwives had continuely reused the same vein so they requested a anthestist to come draw blood as no other midwife could eventually he drew blood from vein near elbow. A couple of hours later without any indication as to what was wrong I was resent down to post natal ward. I had more care and attention by my GP aftercare who made sure I had regular blood tests for my anemia and made sure I had the right medication for infection and right pain relief for c section. St Richards complete lack in care was digraceful and next time I will be electing a different hospital to have a child.
