I had keyhole surgery for removal of gall bladder at Northampton General Hospital 3 weeks ago, after nearly 6 months of waiting. On the day of the op. the time I had been given by the surgeon was cancelled twice for 'political reaons' (his words) and I was transfered onto the emergency list eventually having the operation late in the day. The long time of waiting with no food or drink allowed, and little information which left me feeling isolated and vulnerable.
Following the operation I went to Collingtree ward where the staff were excellent, and the food O.K. Following discharge 2 days later I had problems with a wound infection, dealt with by my own G.P. practise.
I feel there should be some aftercare offered by the hospital, and more direct information about the procedures.
The day after the operation the surgeon who performed it did not visit me on the ward to discuss how it went.
