"Son went in for procedure on cruciate ligament"

About: The Great Western Hospital

Yesterday, 14/04/14, my son, attended Great Western Hospital, Swindon (GWH) for a procedure to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his right leg. He came home last night demanding Indian takeaway! Everything was handled in the utmost professional manner. We particularly appreciated the following: 1) Male nurse in the children's unit, was very kind to my son and put him at ease, keeping him chatting and making him feel welcome. Just what was needed. This is the first time my son has had an operation and he was nervous. 2) Both Anaesthetist and Surgeon coming and chatting with us prior to surgery. 3) Me (Dad) being allowed into the room by the operating theatre to be with my son as he went to sleep. He told me that the last thing he remembered was me repeating the name of our dog, which I was doing as he shut his eyes. 4) The skill of the surgeon is evident today, in that my son is up and around, playing the piano, phoning his friends, watching a DVD, eating and drinking, posting on facebook, walking slowly with crutches as an aid. He has minor discomfort, but nothing major, and Paracetomol seems to be keeping things in check. We are all very grateful for the treatment he received, and would be grateful if you would pass our thanks on to all concerned, Particularly the male nurse and surgeon. We have nothing but praise for the way this was handled. Something which we were all nervous about was made so much easier by the professionalism of your staff. Thanky ou all very much.

Thanks for such great comments. I'm really pleased to hear that your son is recovering well and that his operation appears to have been a success. I'll pass your comments on to the General Manager of our Women's and Children's directorate who, I'm sure, will be delighted to share them with her team.
