"Wonderful experience of vascular surgery"

About: Northern General Hospital / Vascular surgery

(as the patient),

I went into Bev Stokes Day Surgery Unit on the 14th November for vascular surgery and again yesterday 18th December for surgery on my other leg. Initially, i was very apprehensive and quite worried but there was no need at all. The pre-op staff are excellent, they explain exactly what is happening and really take your mind off the operation. The surgeons Mr Chan and Prof. Michaels were excellent and explained everything in full that was about to happen. Even when getting ready for theatre, the staff are wonderful, they even had me laughing when i was supposed to be worried sick. As for the aneasthatist, he was 1st class. I had the same one on both occasions and I don't know what cocktail of drugs he gave me, but i didn't feel at all nauseous as i have done with previous anaesthetics. Following the operation, the staff can't do enough for you, fetching you cups of tea, and toast and biscuits, there is the radio playing in the background and really is such a pleasant atmosphere. I just want people who are worried about going in for day surgery not to be, as it is not a bad experience at all. I would never be worried again and i wasn't when i went in yesterday, everything went to plan, no delays and i was in and out in 5 hours - wonderful!

A very satisfied customer indeed!
