"Problems with "out of area" blood tests"

About: Colchester General Hospital

The hospital has a problem that should be easily resolved but instead staff are using a "work round" to fix what should be fixed. I live in Chelmsford but am being treated at CGH, as part of my treatment I have to have blood tests. This means I can travel to Colchester or have my tests done locally with the results being maintained at Broomfield hospital in Chelmsford. There are two ways for the results to reach Colchester, either I collect a paper copy from my GP or the staff who are treating me, normally nursing staff, have to telephone for results. The results are then put on the paper version of my treatment records. This means the results are only "on hand" when I attend for an appointment and not visible on the hospital computer records. This could be easily fixed by Colchester having a account on the Broomfield computer system to access results or for Broomfield to automatically copy the results to the Colchester system

We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. We would like the opportunity to discuss your experiences more fully. If you are willing I would appreciate it if I could ask the manager of the phlebotomy service (blood tests) to contact you. Could you email me, using the reference “blood tests Comment on RDEE4-Colchester General Hospital at 10/04/2014 10:11:40”, please? Many thanks Paul Searle, Head of Communications Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust info@colchesterhospital.nhs.uk
