"Scan photo charges."

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

I am really unhappy with the the charges made for the maternity scan photos. I do not think that £10.00 for one photo is justifiable. Having spoken with many other pregnant women using other hospitals this isn't comparable. One lady who is having her baby is Sheffield is paying £3.00 for one photo. Whereas here we are being charged £10.00 for one! In your response to the other ladies review in January you failed to delete part of your response! I have copied this below and as you can see my your own admission you've said that Warwick charge £10.00 for three copies. Therefore this doesn't compare favorably. I am having my scan in Rugby - however the charge is still the same. I don't have any issues with the service when I had my son in January 2012 I couldn't have asked for better and hopefully this will be the same this time. However I would kindly request that you review the charges that are currently being made. he costs cover the paper and other expenses and compares favourably with other Trusts that offer the service in Warwickshire (Warwick for example charge £10 for three copies – how much do we charge? I can remove this bit if need be).

Thank you for providing further comment on the charges the Trust makes for baby photo scans. While you have rated our services four stars I see you have not been happy with the charges that we make for these photographs. As you will have seen in the previous response, it is a choice of the expectant mother whether to have a copy of their scan. As the images are produced digitally there is no clinical need to produce hard copies. Therefore the service is not provided for clinical purposes and as mentioned in the previous comment the equipment and consumables need to be funded. Charges are the same in Rugby, which is part of this Trust for the same reason. You also pointed out there was detail included in the response which should have been removed and this has now happened. However we will consider the costs we charge given our comparison with other Trusts in the area. Thank you for leaving your comments on NHS Choices.
