"broken ankle. visit to a&e..virgin care! and..."

About: Croydon University Hospital

went to a&e sunday afternoon ....was seen in 10 mins by virgin care. couldnt believe it! i thought it would be 4 hours. was x rayed and plastered and out within 3 hours...amazing. the staff were really friendly and nice to me... i thought it was bad news that virgin had taken over...but it was a good experience. then the fracture clinic...this was a bit different. the nurses and most staff were good...but some doctors/surgeons not so. one surgeon almost immeadiatly sent me home "see you in 6 weeks"...until i told them ..."i think they said i may need surgery and a permanent cast"...so he sent me to x ray and then changed his mind to "we need to operate"!? this didnt give me much confidence! i tried to ask if i definately needed surgery and he got really rude and walked off...so i chased him on my crutches to ask more. he acted as if i was saying he's a liar. i just wanted to be sure especially after he had told me to go home! then i saw a much nicer surgeon who listened very patiently to my concerns and gave me an option to operate or not with a number to bleep him on if i wasnt coming. i didnt go as i didnt feel confident i was doing the correct thing. so i have phoned today to see what i have to do...but no answer...so i left a message.

We’re sorry to hear about the poor experience you had at the fracture clinic and that you were not able to contact us when you called, although we are glad you were eventually seen by a member of staff who treated you with the consideration our patients should always be able to expect from us. We have passed your comments on to the team that treated you and would like to get more information from you so that we can investigate the issues you raise fully. If you would like to contact our PALS team on talktous@croydonhealth.nhs.uk or on 020 8401 3210 we can take your details and will keep you fully informed of how our investigations progress.
