I underwent Compartment Decompresion surgery on my left leg last year at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy and more recently on my right leg at Strathcaro Hospital, Brechin.
It was my first visit to the hospital for any sort of operation and needless to say I was feeling very anxious about the whole event. However, all my worries were soon to be quashed with the help and reassurance of the excellent staff at both hospitals. I was seen to quickly by the Nurses on shift when I arrived and was made to feel comfortable until I was taken to theatre. The Anesthesiologist explained the procedure and answered all of the nervous questions I had for him (being the first time I had gone under) and he made sure that everything was understood and I was happy for him to continue. I was made aware of exactly what would be happening to me during my visit and all of which was explained clearly and concisely; making me feel more at ease.
Eventually my time came and my bed started to move in direction of theatre, but due to the excellent work of the staff that had already been carried out I felt no need for worry or concern. The Anesthesiologist and his assistant made me feel calm and relaxed as they distanced my thoughts from the surgery to my hobbies and generally just having a laugh.
I came to and what seemed like minutes later had actually been nearly 2 hours and my surgery was complete. On returning to the ward the care was excellent and the Physio I received aided in my recovery.
I could not fault any part of either Hospital visit. The staff seemed really busy and never seemed to catch a breath, but yet still they were able to respond to all the patients needs and I applaud them for it.
"Great experience for compartment decompression at Victoria and Strathcaro Hospitals"
