"Mislead on waiting times"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

Having attended an initial consultation for an operation I was told by the consultant that the waiting list was around 2 months. Having not heard anything and the 2 month window now nearly gone I rang the General Surgery department and was put through to the consultants secretary who now tells me that she is only just dealing with patients that have been on the waiting list for a minimum of 30 weeks as the consultant only works 1 day a week! So much for the 18 week window that the NHS says we have a right to start treatment within! If the consultant has such a backlog why are people still being added to the waiting list? In the meantime I'm now putting up with the discomfort until I can get seen.

The Trust performance is currently showing that 92% of patients are seen and treated within the 18 week window, against a national target of 90%. However, it is disappointing to hear that this is not the case with you and that your wait will be 30 weeks. I would like to investigate why this is and whether there is anything that can be done to reduce the wait but without more information this is not possible.
