"Such a contrast in treatment!"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

There is such a contrast between the staff at this hospital. There are some truly amazing doctors/nurses coupled with ones that are incapable with the bedside manner of a rock. I attended for the majority of 2012/13 due to severe endometriosis. I felt like I had to fight to be seen and it took them over a year to treat me. This left me in debilitating pain. There was a complete lack of communication and I was spoken to mostly like I was an idiot. This lead me to make a formal complaint against the hospital and all I received was pitiful response/excuses. I did not take it further due to the response coming a matter of weeks after my surgery and largely in part due to the skill and ability of the surgeons who I was eventually referred to. PALS were equally useless and failed to deal with my complaint. The surgeons who did my surgery as I said were brilliant. They explained every aspect of my treatment and apologised for the delay (not their fault in all fairness). The surgery went great and I recovered incredibly quickly. My surgeon was happy to answer any questions and was obviously incredibly knowledgeable/skilled. My other experience with Arrowe Park was exactly the same. I attended A&E due to a suspected miscarriage (thankfully the baby was fine) in December 2013. I was barely acknowledged by the nurse I had to see first who quite frankly seemed like she would rather be anywhere else than at work. I was then seen by an allegedly qualified doctor. He advised me after asking me the same questions repeatedly that I seem OK and that there was no one to scan my baby at the weekend. I asked him what he meant and he said they just did not have the staff at the weekend. He was incredibly nervous and did not inspire any confidence. After much arguing and making it clear that I was not going anywhere as I believed that not having enough staff in would amount to negligence if anything was to happen to me or my child (also explaining what I actually did for a living) they requested the on call gynaecologist saw me. This was after me walking out of the room to see him evidently talking about me to his colleagues - very professional. I then saw the on call gynaecologist who I could not praise enough. He was calm and explained the situation after taking a detailed medical history. He advised the reason the scan would not be beneficial until after the weekend which was nothing to do with staffing levels. He went on to examine me and give me advice which I was happy with and went home as reassured as I could be in that situation. I have also been in regarding other pregnancy issues and the maternity team were brilliant! Although I have chose the onetoone midwives due to the above. As I said such a contrast!!
