I have been a volunteer with Sure Start since December 2012, and this is the second time that I have felt the need to post a comment about my positive experiences as a volunteer and service user.
This time it is in relation to my involvement with promoting the 'listening bags', aimed at developing / improving children's' listening skills. Once again I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The 'listening bags' were very well received by the children and their carers, and I had some excellent feedback and positive comments. And I had the pleasure of interacting with some wonderful carers and children. The Sure Start staff members at the Acacia Centre, Annesley, Nottinghamshire, Rachel and Jo, were also very appreciative of my contribution to the group, which adds to the feeling of being valued by ALL as a volunteer.
Many thanks Jane and Kelly for giving me the opportunity and responsibility of doing the 'listening bags'.
Working as a volunteer for Sure Start from my own personal experience has really helped to equip me with the necessary skill set and confidence to work in childcare:
