I have been a outpatient in various departments for the last three years, there seems to be an ingrained regime of making patients wait excessive times beyond their allotted appointment time. Having worked in heavy construction all my life I know something of work programming and I know there can be no excuse for what goes on at the RUH, when you ask the staff why you are still waiting 2 hours after your appointment time they say it's not their fault and there seems to be very low moral. Excuses are no good and saying we have emergencies to cope with is no excuse you have emergencies all the time and contingencies can be made in the work programme to allow for this. I would also make the point that people cannot make their ailments arrive between Monday and Friday it is time the RUH used all their departments 7 days a week, with the huge investment in capital equipment it is a scandal it is only used 5 days out of 7. In the private sector such management would soon be shown the door, One more point is the lack of dedicated outpatients parking, I'm disabled and more often than not all disabled spaces are taken including the wheelchair spaces, being confined to a wheelchair I find this very distressing and not what you want when you know you will be waiting god knows how long before the doctor sees you. Those are the moans, I will say I have no gripes about the treatment I receive once I see the doctor. David Adkins
