"A & E visit - April 2014"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (London)

This was a really negative experience from the beginning, the triage nurse actually made us feel guilty for having the nerve to turn up! She was rude, abrupt and had no people skills! I next got transferred to have blood taken this was also an ordeal taking a few attempts which was completely unnecessary as 9 times out of 10 I don't even need a tourniquet! Eventually I got to see someone who fobbed me off without even properly examining me! I had unfortunately been sent to Queen Elizabeth's A&E by my Gp who I ignored and rung my specialist at Queen Mary's who said the same thing.... go A&E. I went A&E and got told to wait for my next appointment, ignore the swelling and pain and then carried on about payment. I now have an extensive knowledge of how the hospitals get payment and its due to this that I believe my service was poor. This is not my first negative experience, my daughter fractured her scaphoid recently and they sent us home without treatment not long after I watched a girl leave with an untreated broken fibia! Its safe to say I would rather die at home then attempt help from this A&E department.

We are very concerned to hear about your experience of A & E at the Queen Elizabeth and would ask you please to contact Tracey Murphy, our Matron or our PALS team so that we can properly investigate and respond to your concerns. The Emergency Department is always genuinely sorry to hear of negative experiences and we always work hard to improve the standard of care that we give. Thank you for feeding back your experiences and I do hope that you will take the time to contact us on 0208836 6000 and ask for Tracey or PALS. John Fergusson, Service Manager Emergency Department
