"Spinal Ward"

About: Salford Royal

I was happy with my stay in general but there were two areas that could have been better. I am lactose intolerant and was given a menu to chose from. On every occasion I was not given the meal I had chosen. Also I had told the staff at my pre-op assessment about being lactose intolerant but it took the ward 2 days to get the appropriate milk for my drinks. My other complaint was on the day I left hospital the ward I was told I would not be leaving until after 2.00pm. I therefore did not get dressed or pack my things straight away and thought I would have lunch and then do it. At approx. 11.45 a sister and a porter arrived at my bed and said I was going to the Discharge Lounge.I explained I was not dressed or packed and I was made to get dressed very quickly while the sister packed (tipped my belongings into a case and bag). After 12 days in hospital I felt I was thrown off the ward within 10 minutes to then sit in the Discharge Lounge for 3 hours awaiting medications . I realise that they probably needed the bed but if it had been explained to me in the morning I could have got ready and avoided a situation that really upset me. This was first hospital stay for many years and did not know how the system worked. The medical staff were very friendly and the treatment was very good.
