"Care of patient with dementia"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

Mum was admitted to A and E a couple of days ago, and subsequently Ward A3 for a few hours before discharge. The care and compassion she received by the Dr and nurses was fantastic. A particular mention goes to the auxiliary nurse who was tasked with transferring mum to the ward and to the Nurse on A3. As a a nurse myself, and one who has worked in a Lead position to help create and maintain quality standards of care , I have a critical eye and high expectations, particularly for my mum. I was not disappointed, in fact was pleasantly surprised at how well the staff managed mums distress and anxiety when she found herself in a situation she could not comprehend. In fact, mum was hell bent on leaving the hospital after a few hours despite the hospitals plans to continue investigations. In the face of quite challenging behaviour, the staff were patient, used appropriate eye contact, tone of voice, touch, humour and language to persuade her to comply as much as was needed, I am grateful to you all, keep up the good work with all your patients, but particularly wit the care of those with dementia. Please convey my thanks to those concerned.
