I also attended A & E last night with an ankle injury. Although not many people waiting it was at least 2 hours before I was seen. Other people who came in after me appeared to be seen before me. The receptionist was very unfriendly. The triag however I have to say was helpful. I was sent for an x-ray and again the staff were great- I was in and out in a few minutes. I returned to the waiting room, waited again whilst the doctor looked at my X-rays. When I was called in by the doctor he had clearly not looked at my x-rays - he was rude, questioning why I had come to A & E (even though I couldn't walk) and suggested that if I had taken pain killers than maybe I wouldn't be there. He told me my ankle wasn't broken. He gave no advice of what I was to do, eventually getting desperate I asked if I should walk on it or not- he replied yes. My ankle was not strapped up and I was not given any pain killers. My partner and I were so shocked- we just sat there and my partner asked if that was it, he replied yes and carried on writing. That was the first time in my life that I have not thanked someone. My partner, normally a mild man, went back to the doctor and told him he was the rudest man he had ever met - the doctor apologised and began to cry - hardly the behaviour of a professional. I too will be taking this matter further.
