"EAU definitely a ward to avoid"

About: Southport & Formby District General Hospital

Admitted to this ward approx 7am Saturday 29th March for 12hours whilst tests carried out. The 6 bed bay I was in had an extremely sick lady with pneumonia and it was quite distressing to see her pulling off her mask and covers, mumbling and coughing up blood. Physio came to clear her airways and for over most of the day the curtains were not placed round her to keep her dignity. The curtains were placed round just before visiting. In both toilets there were urine samples left for several hours and this was pointed out to staff who said they didn't know they were there even though patients had advised them. The food and drinks were lukewarm. My breakfast consisted of 2 slices of cold white toast and my lunch was salty soup, cheese on white bread and a pudding of watery custard with what looked like sick in the bottom (bread pudding?) The staff nurse in charge was quite rude to my husband and I ended up violently sick the evening I got home. The hospital managers need to ensure patients are better looked after on this ward. The one good thing is the medical staff who were extremely thorough in looking after me.
