"AAU Lack of care and compassion"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

My 88 year old mother was admitted to the AAU. The nurses did not help her to maintain her dignity as they did not help her to the toilet nor provide a walking aid so she could walk there independently. This resulted in her having some episodes of incontinence. She is not incontinent at home and was extremely distressed by this. She asked for help with personal hygiene and was refused. She asked a doctor to get a nurse for her as they weren't taking any notice of her and he said there was no point in him asking for a nurse for her as they didn't take any notice of him either. No nurse came to attend to mum so I assume he did not bother to ask for them to help her. It seems to me the nurses on AAU are working as pseudo doctors- sorting out patients medical problems rather than providing nursing care. Maybe they don't know how to care. My mother was treated in an uncaring, unkindly manner and her dignity and worth as a person was not preserved. I wonder if the nurses on AAU have heard of the 6 Cs and if so why are they not putting them into practice?
