I saw a Nurse Practitioner at the out of hours surgery yesterday. I had a tight chest and blue tongue. The nurse was concerned and wanted to rule out a few things, one being a heart attack. She phoned the A&E to speak to the Dr and said I needed an ECG and gave him my symptoms. She looked a little alarmed and then repeated my symptoms. I was told that the Dr in A&E said it was better for my to wait and be referred. I was horrified and asked if I could go to The University Hospital in Coventry. I was taken there by ambulance and thankfully I was because although I wasn't having an heart attack it was found that I do have a problem with my heart. The ambulance crew and Dr and nurses at The University Hospital were all wonderful. I suggest you review all your current staff to see who is really fit for the job and set higher standards when recruiting new staff. I just thank the Lord that the Nurse Practitioner I saw knew what she was doing and was good at her job.
