"Pleased with care from out of hours service"

(as the patient),

On Saturday evening and having suffered from a chest infection, my condition worsened to whereby I collapsed as a result of a coughing fit. Dazed and disorientated with my family were quite worried around me I sat on the floor with a bump to the head.

My partner called the local surgery and was given the out of hours number (we have never had need to call upon this service before) so all a new experience. The lady took some details and said a doctor would call back within the hour. As promised a doctor called back promptly and spoke to me, she was kind and polite asking direct questions in order to asses my condition. she asked if I could get to the Biggleswade hospital in 30 mins (but not to worry if you're early). A neighbour kindly drove us and we were greeted by another very kind helpful gentleman who held every door open and offered us water while we waited. The wait was only 1-2 mins and the doctor called us in. She prescribed some antibiotics and an inhaler, which she provided there and then.

The service was outstanding. the staff were brilliant. well done Biggleswade hospital I hope the people involved are proud of the service they gave that night. Thank you very much.

I manage a small team that provides the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), the Complaints service and the Freedom of Information service. We respond to patient and public enquiries and investigate their complaints as well as responding to Freedom of Information Act requests. We also monitor the complaints services operated by our Provider organisations.
