"Hopital care, rubbish. Consultant, the best!"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

I had Myomectomy bikini cut major operation. Very luckily, I had a great Consultant. Am just so glad he operated me. 5mnths into my surgery I've bn doing everything I used to do before, running, zumba dance, work, shake my waist, no pains or complications whatsoever. Am sure others r good too but this is who changed my life for good. All the symptoms I used to have which warranted the surgery in the first place r now no more. I must say however, that am very very disappointed with the nurses and everybody that gives care in that hospital incl the blood takers. I think the only people I found a bit helpful were the care workers and the people who give out food to patients. It was really a nightmare spending 6dys in that hospital but I was happy my operation went well. Where do I begin? Is it the experience I had with the way they administered drips to me? Most of the time the drip finished and blood went up the thing, at points my vein got blocked they will keep forcing the drip tru and I used to be in so much pain, at a point my hand swelled up and when I complained, instead of them changing it, they removed it and i forfeited my drips and when I complained again about my drips they started oral admin. My blood was supposed to be monitored after ops as it was major and I had no blood transfusion. For once, nobody took my blood. Everytime they came and tried and don't get it, they just walked away and told me the doctors will do it but they never did. And by the time they discharged me, I went into a serious shortage of blood. Thank God for my Gp who placed me on severe blood supplements and monitored me tru several blood tests. My urine was supposed to be monitored, it was only done once. When I wasn't supposed to eat after a day, they told me to eat, I did and my wound bled heavily they had to remove all the dressings. These few are just a little of the nightmare I went tru. Press that bell behind your bed and you will be sorry when they get to u. They will tell you off and walk away without even asking why you pressed the bell in the first place. Are you kidding me? At a point, I said to myself they are all monsters. I couldn't wait to go home. On two ocassions that I had problems that ambulance came to take me, I didn't want them to take me back to Queens but they said I had to go there cos that's where I had my surgery. The funny thing is, this lack of care seems to be from top to bottom, it seems like a very comfortable tradition there and nobody questions them so they get away with it all the time. If it wasn't for my condition, seriously, I would have captured some videos and voices as evidence. But there's always gonna be another opportunity even tho I never pray to go there again. But the hospital is beautiful, with modern facilities and technology, the people just need to show the care wich is the main reason they should be in the job, not money. They need to realise that patients are helpless when they are in the hospital.

Thank you for your comment. I’m pleased to hear that your operation went well and that you have been able to resume all your activities as normal. However, I am very concerned about your experience from our nursing staff and others on the ward. In addition to my own general investigation following your comments, I would really appreciate some more information from you so I can deal with these unacceptable behaviours. Please contact me through our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk so this can be thoroughly looked into. Yours sincerely Flo Panel-Coates Director of Nursing
