"No need to worry."

About: Southmead Hospital

Visited J-ward and Woodlands Ward for overnight stay involving procedure related to bladder problem. At no time did I lack attention from staff. After a cheery welcome in J-ward and pre-op preparation, a visit to theatre, and post procedure care in Woodlands, my opinion is that everyone on the staff did all they could to make my visit easy. I was well informed about possible after effects and discomfort, which made it easier to bear. Fortunately these effects soon cleared, as promised. The only negative comment I have to make is that, after discharge, I experienced a nightmare week with severe constipation which developed into Faecal Impaction, possibly the side effects of analgesia and/or dehydration, or lack of salts. A call to my medical centre soon resolved matters, but a warning about the possibility would have been good in advance, so that preventative measures could have been taken. Comment on catering: perfectly satisfactory.

Dear – Allanaca – thank you for taking the time and trouble to post your views. I am pleased that your experience in hospital was so positive. Your kind comments have been fed back to the teams. Although I understand that it is normally explained to patients, I have also asked them to consider your comments about more information concerning possible side effects of any pain relief. I apologise that this was not made clear to you at the time. I hope that you are now fully recovered. Kind Regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Team
