"The staff were lovely and were ..."

About: Grantham & District Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff were lovely and were working in filthy rooms under preasure to limit waiting times - they deserve medals

What could be improved

My 14 year old son was booked into A+E with a broken, twisted finger. It took 3.5 hours to be triaged. We were only then told that children are not treated at the hospital and that he would need to be tranferred through to Lincoln hospital. The hospital policy is to transfer children by ambulance - this would mean a further 4-5 hours wait! He was only given 1 brufen tablet whilst in there. We opted out of the wait and drove him to Lincoln ourselves.

The room that he was triaged in had a sign on the wall saying that the room was cleaned after each use, however the sheets were bloody, there were bloody, used plasters on the floor, there was a patch of something unpleasant near the bed and a bottle of urine near the radiator. YUK!. I refused to let my son sit on the bed - would'nt you?

Anything else?

Hospital mangement need to provide more cleaning staff and give patients clear guidelines on who they can treat before booking in. We could have taken our son straight to Lincoln
