What could be improved

There is not enough space to list everything that could have been improved in maternity services. From my admission to my discharge I was treated as a second class citizen. The nursing staff were rude, arrogant and disrespectful. I was even shouted at for changing my newborn baby's nappy at 3am when the nurse woke me up by switching on the main light to attend to her friend's dressings. Apparently, it made too much noise to take a nappy out of a bag and would wake her friends baby. When I pointed out that there was a radio and lights on, which was more likely to wake a baby, I was told that I was too mouthy. During my stay, the bedsheets were never changed and I was left with a bloodstained gown and dressings. Despite being on crutches, no assistance was offered to help wash my newborn as was offered to other patients and I had to wait for 7 hours to find out the severity of my baby's jaundice as the paed. had more important things to do like weighing other babies. She even told my husband that she would speak to a collegue and return to see our baby, and after waiting 2 hours, she was found with her feet up in the staff area having a break. The meals are also a joke as I was given a sandwich to eat with a knife and fork, while other ladies were admitted and offered meals like jerk chicken and curried goat and lamb fillet. Nobody in maternity knew what anyone else was doing and blamed each other for discrepancies.

Anything else?

The surgeons put me completely at ease and did a fantastic job. They were pleasant and highly skilled at their job and bedside manner.
