"Had my second baby here in March ..."

About: The Great Western Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Had my second baby here in March - the midwives were fantastic. The delivery rooms are very well equiped, with everything they might need that is safe to leave in the room being actually in the room instead of somewhere down the corridor as it is in some other hospitals, they are en-suite and the beds themselves are fabulous. Fortunately it was a very easy birth and they basically just let nature take it's course with very little intervention, a nice change from my first birth. I was listened to every step of the way. Was allowed as much recovery time as I needed, including a prolonged bath, before being transferred to a very nice private room, and despite being run off their feet the midwives on the ward answered every single call with cheerfulness and were very helpful. Security was so good it was verging on silly!

When we were admitted back a few days later with feeding problems, the staff were extremely sympathetic, well-trained and helpful on the Children's ward, where we had well equiped private room which was very clean, and the whole ward was very secure.

What could be improved

It would be nice to be allowed to get feeding properly established before the bed is needed for someone else - but that's a national problem and not the fault of the unit or staff. That might have eliminated the need to be readmitted a few days later coz baby had dropped too much weight.

Anything else?

TV/phone system is extremely expensive.
