"Ward 4 - A shining example of nursing at its best"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

My father who suffered with Alzheimer's disease was recently admitted to ward 4. What a breath of fresh air, caring staff who treated him with respect and maintained his dignity at all times. There was always a nurse stationed in his bay at all times and nothing was too much trouble. I was encouraged to bring in photos, and low level age appropriate music was played in the afternoon. I was given a pt passport to fill in so that staff were aware of his likes and dislikes and had accurate info about him. Unfortunately my dad passed away at the weekend but I could not have wished for him to be in a better place , his death was handled sensitively and we were looked after so well by the staff on duty. Ward 4 is a beacon of nursing excellence with all staff appearing committed and dedicated to what they do - others could learn a lot from this team. Thank you for everything you did for my dad (Peter)

Dear Jude I am so incredibly moved by your feedback. You speak of great people in the NHS, but credit must also go to you for taking the time to share this at a time when I am sure there must be many, many other things demanding your time. The environment of care you have described on Ward 4 sounds wonderful - the caring, compassionate, courageous reassurance that any of us would wish for our loved ones as their time with us comes to an end. It has been a real privilege to read this, and I personally will make sure that your kind words are shared with Sarah and the team on Ward 4. They take such pride in their care, and it is wonderful to see this recognised. My very best wishes to you. Adrian Osborne Communications Director The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
