"Do not treat the elderly as pure baggage!!!"

I write this review on behalf of my aunt, who is almost 89 years old, and received the most appalling treatment on her visit to the hospital on Thursday 20th March. Usually, I always accompany my aunt to appointments. However, on this occasion, there was no prior warning to her being picked up by an ambulance crew. She is in Skegness Hospital at the moment, having been transferred there from Boston the week before. The ambulance crew took my aunt to the Royle Eye Dept for laser treatment which had had to be cancelled owing to a fall she suffered on the same day as her previously booked appointment. As a result of this, she suffered a dislocated shoulder which slipped out of place twice. Hence needing long term care in Skegness. Mu aunt was in the clinic for 5 hours!! She was not given food or drink despite being diabetic. Consequently, she began to feel very unwell. Eventually, two nurses helped her by giving her lucozade and biscuits. The ambulance crew picked her up at 6pm but instead of heading straight back to Skegness they made a detour to the back of the hospital leaving my aunt in a locked ambulance on her own for an hour!! She had only lightweight clothing on, no coat and was not even given a blanket. No explanation was given by the crew as to where they had been despite auntie asking. Whilst all this was going on, which I was totally unaware of, I had travelled from Wrangle to Skegness to visit her, only to find that she was in Boston and no-one had thought to even let me know (I am auntie's only living close relative). The staff at Skegness were unable to give me any idea of when she would get back. My aunt is in a wheelchair and unable to walk unaided. Understandably, she was very upset at being left in a locked ambulance alone. Who was there for her if she had suddenly taken ill?? Personally, I feel her treatment is unforgiveable. She was treated no better than a piece of baggage in transit. The elderly deserve much better.
