"Stroke Unit, vascular ward and medical Assessment..."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

I have worked for the NHS for 30 years but for the last 15 years in Primary Care. I had believed that truly caring professionals were a thing of the past in NHS hospitals, I was wrong!! In the space of 2 months my father was admitted to RBH on 3 occasions. During each of these admissions it became apparent that staffing at the hospital is poor however every member of staff we came in contact with was caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and professional. No task was too much trouble, no request denied. Sadly my father passed away whilst awaiting heart surgery at another hospital but was fortunate to be nursed on the MAU at Blackburn for his last 2 days. If ever a death can be 'good' this was. As a family we were supported at just the right level but staff were not intrusive. Both my father and the family were treated with dignity and kindness. Both nursing staff and medical staff communicated with us every step of the way. Even after his death we were not rushed and were supported by the staff in carrying out 'last offices' for our lovely dad. I can not thank the staff enough and can not praise their care highly enough. hope the hospital management are aware of the diligent and hard working staff they are fortunate to have.
