"Alder Hey is a disgrace"

About: Alder Hey Hospital

In summary our visit to Alder Hey Hospital was a total disaster with devastating consequences for my son and my family. I have a number of concerns regards this hospital. In order to keep it as brief as possible i will only list the more serious issues which include: •The administration of intravenous medication was often too casual/late or missed and the administration itself verging on dangerous. •The general attitudes of staff were rude, unprofessional, arrogant and unwilling to listen •The hygiene standards of the hospital wards were appalling. In my two week stay i witnessed the ward being cleaned twice which at best was a quick clean down rather than a thorough clean you would expect from a hospital. I am certain the standards do not meet the standards required of a hospital • Confidentiality was broken on two occasions involving two different doctors divulging highly confidential information regarding my son to a family member i had requested was given no information. • Milk kitchen policies and procedures need reviewing in regards to wrong milk being given to my son. This could potentially be very dangerous to children with special dietary requirements such as my son. •Important information regarding my sons condition was concealed from me The list is endless but i would seriously recommend staying away from this hospital where possible. It was on my insistance that my son was moved to Alder Hey as i (wrongly) believed this was the best place for him. How wrong i was. This hospital is a disgrace and i cannot stress enough how awful my experience there was.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a message about the care your son received at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. We are very sorry to hear about your experience, which falls short of the high standard we would expect. If you haven’t already contacted the Patient Experience team, we would be very grateful for the opportunity to discuss your experience with you. Please contact Liz Edwards, Head of Patient Experience on 0151 252 5919 or email PALS@alderhey.nhs.uk
