"Parking Eye & Newcaslte General Hospital"

About: Campus for Ageing and Vitality / General medicine

(as the patient),

With reference to the NHS Foundation Parking Scam. My husband and myself had to attend an annual review ( OF WHICH ONLY TOOK 40 MINS ) at the above hospital recently and parked in an designated disabled parking bay using the correct blue badge card and clock.. The usual place that we would normally have parked was found to be full however the normal disabled bays that were in this area were no longer there and were in fact just normal bays and taken - assuming these were taken by other members of the nursing staff, as the hospital operates a bus scheme between all hospitals in the Newcastle area for hospital staff. Newcastle Hospital at the moment is in the process of being knocked down with many of the buildings in rubble, the place is a right mess with wagons etc and dust all over. Most of the services have been relocated in other hospitals. The reason for this so called management of the parking areas operated by Parking Eye I think is a bit extreme. You cannot imagine the horror when my husband opened the letter to find that we had been fined for parking in a designated area. After reading what others have said and quoting that the notices aren't enforceable I only wished I had appealed. It was my husband who told me to pay the bill/fine or whatever you want to call it. I do feel that what happened wasn't justified, and appreciate that parking charges make up a sizable chunk of income for most NHS hospitals but when some services are operating in a run down hospital which is being demolished in stages the issues of charges should be addressed in a more appropriate manner - example just pay the going rate per hour to park. We cannot understand why this service (Parking Eye) has been put into operation - which could only have been operating this scheme for a few month at this hospital site as we were there for another appointment just in August 2013..., when the hospital is slowly closing down ( to be turned into a large Tesco - who will in turn no doubt offer free parking).... I would be curious to know how much of the actual fine..... actually goes to the NHS? Most people don't mind paying the going rate for parking. So much for the blue badge parking.
