"mirena coil fitting experience "

About: York Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I went to see a gynaecologist about having a coil fitted and they never said about taking painkillers before hand. I have today been for it fitted. I was told to undress and get into position, she examined me to see shape and position of womb, then put a speculum in and opened it which was fine. She put local anaesthetic into area which unfortunately did not work. She then clamped cervix open to keep still. Then she inserted tube and released mirena in place and cut threads. Once she did that she took clamp off and spectrum out but I was in a lot of pain and a lot of cramping all way through procedure as anaesthetic did not work. Cramping is really bad still. It felt like there was a lot of pressure down there as well. It was a horrible experience.
