" We do need and deserve the same help as those with more recognisable illnesses"

About: Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

(as the patient),

I suffer from social anxiety and depression and would like to say how different the doctors can be at one surgery. I visited my surgery looking for help around a year ago and the first doctor I saw could not have been less interested and irritated had she tried. I felt like I was a nuisance for bothering her with something so trivial (not her words, her actions) and I had a leaflet thrust in my hand and sent on my way.

Determined I needed help with this I tried another doctor who immediately put me at ease. He turned his chair to face me, talked to me helped me understand that this was controllable. He prescribed a combination of CBT and Citalopram and I slowly improved. He recently left the practice and I moved to a a new doctor who is equally interested and helpful. My point to the first doctor and others like her is that we are ill. We do need and deserve the same help as those with more recognisable illnesses. I'd also like to thank the other doctors for their care.
