I gave birth to my baby in December 2012 and couldn't recommend the MLU highly enough for anyone who wants to have a natural birth. The staff made me feel relaxed and that everything was progressing as it should which is so important for a straightforward delivery. My midwife knew just how much we needed her to be there in the room with us and when to leave us to ourselves. I felt safe and very well supported and informed at all times. When we arrived at the unit, the birthing pool was in use so most of my labour was in one of the other suites. The room was spotlessly clean, and very well equipped for an active labour. I was lucky enough for the pool to become free towards the end of my labour so my baby was born in the water. This is an excellent facility and the pain relief from being in the water was great. After I gave birth, we stayed at the unit for four hours whilst the necessary checks were carried out and the staff gave us a crash course in how to take care of our baby! Including tips on breast feeding. We were not rushed at all but were happy to get home so quickly afterwards. The only was I think the service could be improved would be if more birthing pools were available. Thank you to all the staff.
