From the time I knew I had to have an operation for a hernia, I waited exactly 8 weeks, very near to the suggested time it would be. The doctor had troubled me, he would leave it as it was! Then he discovered my age and that I love alone, decided he would operate. I am almost 82!
Never, ever having been in hospital before or had an anaesthetic, I asked a few question, the answers to which satisfied me.
When I received the confirmation of admission I discovered I would be staying overnight to make sure I would be safe to return home to be on my own. I was given adequate instructions about my admission, but nothing relating to overnight except to take my medication.
Admission went smooth and operation seemed to go okay. Everyone was helpful. By the time it came to eating I was hungry but surprised to find the bread was white – no wholemeal – why?
I thought my extended time in care, due to a problem after the op. The staff were caring and attentive at all times. My thanks to all the staff, nurses, doctors and physio who were involved and patient with me at all times!
