I wanted to leave some feedback about my experience of giving birth on the low-risk labour ward at the Royal London as it was such a wonderful experience and having read several negative stores I wanted to tell mine.
I gave birth to my son in December 2013 and I was anxious as I had had several miscarriages in the past and my experience of giving birth to my daughter, at St Mary's, had been awful. I was keen to have as non-interventionist labour as possible but because of my history I was too nervous to go to the birth centre so I opted for the low-risk ward and was so pleased I did. Everyone, from the cleaners to the consultants were absolutely fantastic, I felt I was treated with complete utmost respect and kindness.
My birth plan was taken very seriously and I had been introduced to Grace who I believe is in charge of the maternity unit and she really went out of her way to try and help me have the labor I wanted.
The night I came in, in November there were several emergencies going on in the ward and they were extremely busy, yet I still had the most supportive midwife who enabled me to have a natural birth.
There was a slight complication towards the end but it was dealt with so swiftly and professionally and because I felt complete trust in the staff around me, the situation was resolved without any problem.
I was so impressed with the birthing room, the pool was magnificent and the room was spotless. I had to stay in for 3 nights due to haemorrhaging and opted to get a private room and again was so happy with the staff who were working on the ward. If I needed help someone always came to the room within a few minutes, even in the middle of the night and I was so impressed with the help and support I got with breast feeding and other advice with regards to my child. I really felt that I couldn't have had better treatment in a nicer environment and wanted to thank Grace and all the staff for making my stay there so memorable.
